These treks are suitable for any walker looking for something a little more challenging and energetic. They are a combination of some longer and shorter walks and hill-walking experience is desirable. The duration is usually from 10 to 15 days. Following the up and down terrain of Nepal and walking to higher elevations contrasts these treks to those in the easy classification. However, you will be rewarded for your efforts with spectacular close-up views of glaciers and of the high Himalayas. Although the terrain is not difficult, some vigorous hiking experience is useful. There may be up to 6 hours a day on the trail and the elevation rises and falls from 800m/ 2624ft to 4000m/13210ft above sea level.

Shivapuri Day Hike Peak Details

Location: Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, in the northern part of Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.

Starting Point: Budhanilkantha, about 10 kilometers from Kathmandu city center. Hikers will encounter a holy Hindu pilgrimage site featuring a statue of Lord Vishnu lying horizontally along a roll of snakes.

Elevation: Shivapuri Peak stands at 2,732 meters (8,963 feet).

Duration:  6-7 hours for a round trip, depending on your pace and starting point.

Trail: The trail is well-marked and passes through dense forests, streams, and Nagi Gombu. The nunnery lies below the daunting Tara Bir Cliff, which is sacred to the female buddha of compassion. Tara is practiced daily by all the nuns.

Difficulty: Moderate accessible for most hikers. Required a reasonable level of fitness due to the elevation gain and some steep sections.

Tea house: A small break place for tea after the steep walk for 2 or 3 hours from the entry point. The place is peace with small tea house, stupa and monastry where one monk stays for meditation and to look after the monastry. And on the other hand the tea house is owned by the Baba.

Bagdwar: The initial phase of Bagmati river water flows from this area. And considered sacred in Hinduism and Buddhism.

Detail Itinerary

Early morning: Guide pick up guest from the hotel and drive to Shivapuri entry point.

At 7 am: The entrance office opens and checking takes place by Army and head towards the hike.
