Detail Itinerary

  • Day 01: Kathmandu to Bhadrapur (Flight Duration: 45 minutes) - Drive to Taplejung (1,820 m)  Drive Duration: 7-8 hours (approx. 240 km) Your adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, where the plains of eastern Nepal meet the towering Himalayas. Upon arrival, a long but scenic drive takes you through lush hills, terraced farms, and tea plantations to Taplejung. This town is a cultural hub for the Limbu people, known for their Shamanistic practices, unique language, and warm hospitality. Overnight stay in Taplejung.
  • Day 02: Taplejung to Helok (1,270 m) - Trek to Yarsang (1,700 m), Drive Duration: 3-4 hours (approx. 60 km). Trek Duration: 3-4 hours. After breakfast, drive to Helok along the banks of the Tamor River. The trek begins here, following forested trails through rhododendron groves and remote Limbu villages. The Limbu people maintain strong cultural roots through traditional attire, dances, and agricultural lifestyles. Arrive in Yarsang for an overnight stay.
  • Day 03: Yarsang to Tortong (2,995 m) Trek Duration: 5-6 hours. Leaving Yarsang, the trail gradually ascends through dense forests of rhododendron and bamboo. You’ll follow the Simbuwa River, with occasional glimpses of snow-capped peaks. Tortong is a serene resting point surrounded by lush alpine vegetation. Overnight stay in Tortong.
  • Day 04: Tortong to Cheram (3,870 m). Trek Duration: 4-5 hours. Continue your ascent along the river, crossing suspension bridges and waterfalls. The terrain becomes more rugged, transitioning to a high-altitude landscape. As you approach Cheram, stunning views of the surrounding peaks emerge. Cheram is an important stop before heading to the base camp. Overnight at a local teahouse.
  • Day 05: Acclimatization Day in Cheram (3,870 m) This rest day allows you to adjust to the increasing altitude. You can explore the area with optional short hikes to nearby viewpoints, offering panoramic vistas. Cheram’s cultural influence is deeply tied to Tibetan Buddhism, visible in the prayer flags and chortens adorning the landscape. Overnight in Cheram.
  • Day 06: Cheram to South Base Camp (Oktang Viewpoint - 4,730 m) and Return. Trek Duration: 6-7 hours. An early start takes you to the highlight of the trek—the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp, also known as Oktang Viewpoint. This vantage point offers breathtaking views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and its massive glacier. After soaking in the majestic scenery, return to Cheram for an overnight stay.
  • Day 07: Cheram to Yarsang (1,700 m) Trek Duration: 6-7 hours. Retrace your steps as you descend to Yarsang. The return journey provides a fresh perspective on the landscapes and local communities. Enjoy the peacefulness of the mountain trails as you journey back through forests and river valleys. Overnight stay in Yarsang.
  • Day 08: Yarsang to Helok - Drive to Taplejung. Trek Duration: 3-4 hours. Drive Duration: 3-4 hours. Complete the final leg of your trek, descending to Helok. From there, a scenic drive takes you back to Taplejung. Reflect on your adventure while enjoying the local cuisine and hospitality. Overnight in Taplejung.
  • Day 09: Taplejung to Bhadrapur - Flight to Kathmandu. Drive Duration: 7-8 hours. Flight Duration: 45 minutes. An early drive brings you back to Bhadrapur, passing through verdant hills and rural landscapes. From Bhadrapur, take a domestic flight back to Kathmandu, where your Kanchenjunga South Base Camp adventure concludes. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll have time to relax and celebrate your incredible journey.
